It gives us great pleasure to present this publication which is the result of inter-regional cooperation based on the GROW programme – The RELEMCOM Project.
The first section on the publication presents the:
Comparison of national, regional and local policy and procedures for brownfield and former landfill sites,
Sustainable development issues,
The importance of the inclusive process and participation in the decision making process by citizens, as individuals or as associations,
The second section is a description of the experiences, the case studies and the lessons learnt. An analysis of the most important outcomes, concerning:
Reuse former landfill sites and brownfield sites
Sustainable redevelopment
Empowering communities (inclusive process)
In the third section you will find conclusions and recommendations based on the experience in the different partner countries and the best practices exchange between the partners.
What makes the publication special are the authors who took part in this collective project. Thanks to thei knowledge and experience we are convinced that this publication will be useful for a large number of readers, especially those interested in regional and local development and the reclamation of the the waste and brownfield sites, and we hope they find it stimulating and informative.

19th – 20th MARCH 2007 A RELEMCOM UK WORKSHOP WITH SEEDA AND ENGLISH PARTNERSHIPS.
The purpose of the workshop is to illustrate the range of good practice taking place in brownfield development in SE England, often funded and supported by SEEDA and English Partnerships, as well as on the Continent. It provides an opportunity for networking and to discuss a selection of national and local initiatives in more detail in the break-out sessions.
The workshop is designed for planners and regeneration specialists from local authorities and regeneration agencies in South East England, and will also be of interest other stakeholders such as architects, designers and community workers.

2006-12-20 | International Relemcom meeting in Vught (Netherlands) |

The cooperation between the Relemcom Project Partners to design a process in which former landfill and brownfield sites are redeveloped in a sustainable manner is accelerating. The representatives of Relemcom Project Partners took part in the International Relemcom meeting in Vught (Netherlands) and discussed the following topics: formal and practical aspects of the project, communication and dissemination plan, the working process, selection process in the Netherlands, planning process in Bologna and Sassuolo, experiences of SEEDA (England), sustainable development, reuse of former landfills.
Relemcom Partners have also visited the redeveloped former landfills in the Noord Brabant region.

2006-09-15 | Kick off meeting in Amsterdam |

At 15th of September 2006 the representatives of Relemcom project partners took part in kick-off-meeting in Amsterdam. The representatives discussed about the tasks and responsibilities of each partner and introduced presentations about progress in subprojects.

RELEMCOM was approved by the GROW Steering Committee on 12th May 2006 and the contract was signed on 12th September 2006.
The aim of this project is to design a process in which former landfill and brownfield sites are redeveloped in a sustainable manner.
The project involves four countries: The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Poland and Italy.
The project starting date is 1st January 2006 and the project completion date is 31st October 2007.
